Voice activated idents

Voice activated idents are a new way of getting an unpredictable style of moevement. The different levels and tones in a persons voice will determine the outcome of the amount of movement in an element on screen or the sharpness and speed of movement. On discussing it I imagined that it would be very refreshing and diverse and interesting, but on viewing it I thought differently. The movement in on screen elements is not much different each time the announcer speaks, even if the person says something completely different, if they talk quickly the movement is quicker, if they slow down the movement is slower. Not much can happen to create a completley different outcome each time whilst keeping viewers focused and interested, and watching it can get rather boring. It is a clever idea but i think it needs a lot more work. Also i think animation and motion is a lot nicer when it is planned out and follows a path, rather than being random. The voice activation style seems to be very abstract, and i dont think it will come out on top as a new way of creating motion, especially in TV idents.

BBC3 Idents and change in branding

BBC3 has changed it's logo and branding to a new colourful and rich theme with 3d text and plenty of 3d animation. The old BBC3 ident being the largre block letters of the word 'three' and little orange slug characters which move and interact with each other creating amusing instance within their short period of screen time. After a while ideas would run short due to the characters and trying to create something different each time. Now the ident is bright, colourful and full of life, with fast moving camera transitions and quick motions. Smooth rounded eges with a fun and youthful feel. I think maybe the ident for BBC3 now is very feminine with a lot of pink used and 'girly' elements like shoes and lipstick. I think if the colours were altered and the ident incorperated some darker colours and other element to make a balance then it would appeal to a wider range of people.

TV Idents

TV idents are the most important elements in channel branding. The ident captures the viewers attention to help draw them in to watch the channel. In the past the idents were basic logo's with a small amount of movement due to technology limitations at the time. In the present day idents have become technical and more advanced with interesting movement and colours etc. They also last longer to create interest. Each channel ident has its own theme depending on the next program the time of year and so on. A lot of work and special effects has gone into TV idents these days and is successful in capturing the viewer. Stings are everywhere at the end of programs to advertise the coming program to keep you on the channel.
